Grote Oost
he Great East is one of the first streets of the city. The street runs over (a part of) the Westfriese Omringdijk and is therefore higher than the rest of the city center. In 1420, the street (the Ooststraat) was paved with stones for the first time. There are dozens of national monuments on the Great East, mostly the distinguished houses from the 17th and 18th centuries of well-to-do regent families from Hoorn. In addition, there is also the Ooster- or Sint-Antoniuskerk on this street, this is one of the two Gothic churches of the city.
