Benedictijner Abbey
The current abbey dates from 1935 when monks from Oosterhout (N.Br) came to Egmond to resume the Benedictine life that had flourished here in the Middle Ages. Over time, Egmond Abbey developed into a religious and cultural center in Holland and grew into the most important Benedictine abbey in the north.
Candle making started in 1945. In this way the monks could provide for their livelihood. Initially, only church candles were made, but slowly the production grew into a wide range. Now there are candles for many occasions.
The factory's success led to further expansion of operations with a monastic store, a religious bookstore, and a museum.
