The present and past lie fraternally beside each other in the harbour at Medemblik. Modern yachts and historical ships from the brown fleet moor in the contemporary harbours in the old town centre. You can get a good view of the activity on the water as you sit on one of the terraces. Medemblik has no less than three large harbours in the centre, so water sports lovers have enough to choose from. In addition, with the Regatta Centre the city has a water sports centre of international allure where national and international sailing competitions are organised. But it doesn't stop at sailing events: come for a visit during the romantic markets, the Dickens Festival, the horse racing, the Rondom weekend or one of the other well attended events.
Train to the past
Out of the three West Frisian ports, Medemblik may be the smallest but is certainly equal to its counterparts. In this oldest town in West Friesland with its historical centre full of warehouses, canalside houses and the prominent Radboud Castle, you will feel transported to bygone days. In addition to Radboud Castle the Bakery Museum ‘De Oude Bakkerij’ and the Steam Engine Museum are worth a visit. And the Steam Train comes to Medemblik railway station during the season. Climb aboard for Hoorn and enjoy the view across the fields and the lowland of West Friesland or sail by boat towards Hoorn.
Foreshore
Just under the Regatta Centre is the Foreshore, a beautiful recreation area where you can swim, laze in the sun or fish. In this green paradise you will find a sandy beach, meadows, a reed and rush area and a bird island! At the Regatta Centre you will find Restaurant MED with Mediterranean delicacies and delicious drinks.
