In a sea of meadows lies the former fishing village of Kolhorn. Picturesquely located behind the dike, it is not difficult to imagine that this was once a fishing village beside the Zuiderzee. As a result of the impoldering, it now lies at the heart of the West Frisian landscape. Since then, Kolhorn has deservedly become a conservation village.
If you visit Kolhorn in the summer, be sure not to miss the three Night Markets. The two-hundred and fifty market stalls create a long ribbon through the village and when it gets dark have fairytale lighting. An enchanting sight! And would you like to experience how the fishermen once sailed across the Zuiderzee? Then take a cruise in the original Langedijker Rondkont: a relaxing sailing trip across the Kolhornerdiep and through the former sea lock.
Tip! Lookout posts have been created along the village dike for a beautiful view across the polder.
