Even before the All Saints Flood of 1170 people lived here: the first West Frisians. After that the area was uninhabitable for a long period as a result of intense storms. But since the reclamation people have returned. On an autumnal day it is not difficult to imagine the hardships that the early inhabitants suffered. That in itself makes Wieringenwaard such an unusual spot: this land was created by human hands.
Beautifully situated in the Anna Paulowna polder, this ribbon village (with its listed farmhouses, water towers and corn mills) enjoys a lively village culture. During the Flower Days, which are organised at the beginning of May, many flower mosaics made of hyacinths can be admired. You will also find a nature pool In Wieringerwaard: the water is pumped from a natural well and purifies itself organically. Get to know the Netherlands waterland.
Tip! Come to Eendracht Adventures for a game of paintball. For adults and children alike!
