Waarland means lowland. If you are looking for a spot of true polder romanticism you are at the right address. The Waarlandpolder, which for many years consisted of various islands and lakes, was drained in 1557 with the help of one of the first watermills. Today you will still find two mills in Waarland: the Slootgaardmolen (1590) and the Poldermolen Waarland (1571). Nature lovers should definitely not miss out nature reserves De Boomerwaal and De Drasse Dijkvoet!
However, what makes Waarland absolutely unique is Vlindorado: the largest butterfly garden in Europe. Walk through a tropical rainforest with its exotic butterflies of many varieties, colours and sizes, such as the sensational blue Morpho from Central America. A wonderful experience for young and old.
Tip! Every year, the Badpopfestival takes place in Waarland: a must-hear for music lovers!
