Located on the IJsselmeer dike is the pleasant village of Venhuizen. You will still find original buildings here: the town hall, mayor's residence and the traditional 'stolp' farmhouses that have become listed buildings one by one. Venhuizen is also located on the Zuiderzee Route, near intersection 47. During this tour around the former Zuiderzee - how the IJsselmeer - you will experience the rich history of what was also referred to as the 'Golden Circle'.
Holland light
The Zuiderzee Route takes you past the economic activity of Enkhuizen, the lush nature of the Weerribben and the forests and heaths of the Veluwe. Dutch masters once praised the 'Holland light' above the Zuiderzee, which you can still see in works by painters such as Vermeer and Van Ruisdael. So look around carefully.
Tip! If you'd prefer to remain in Venhuizen, then the Bonatèr garden estate is certainly worth visiting. In this young organic nursery, vegetables, fruit and herbs are grown and the animals walk around freely. You can also camp here for the night. Or book an overnight stay at Breakfast Hemel aan Zee.
