Resting against the protective spine of the 126-kilometre-long West Frisian Circular Dike, in the heart of the green polderlands, lies the village of Ursum. It is not surprising that so many cyclists come here! The dike is the perfect way for anyone who loves being high above the North Holland landscape to enjoy a cycle ride. Sitting at the crossroads is Hotel Restaurant de Gouden Karper, a favourite starting point among the hundreds of cyclists and racing cyclists who peddle weekly over the dike and through the green polders. The apple pie is delicious and the coffee is almost ready!
Just outside the village is De Ursemmerplas recreation lake, where local youngsters and tourists camping on the adjacent campsite can enjoy the sun and a refreshing dip. Another day like this tomorrow!
