The picturesque fishing village of Uitdam lies the foot of the dike with its wooden houses and red roofs. In bygone days, the inhabitants sailed their so-called ship camels, the merchant vessels, to nearby Amsterdam. Nowadays, the village only has a few remaining fishing boats that sail on the inland lakes or the IJmeer. There is a wonderful walk beside the small harbour and the green Uitdammer Dike (between the grazing goats and sheep) and by bike you can explore the most beautiful spots in the surrounding municipality of Waterland. Uitdam is and continues to be a unique village that is surprisingly close to the city. Perfect for a day of relaxation.
