The natural shore defence at Schoorldam alone is worth a visit! On a summer days ships and pleasure boats float by the entire day. Follow the West Frisian Circular Dike with the lowland of the polder on one side and the dunes that stretch out into the distance on the other side. Via the bridge over the Noordhollandsch Canaal you can cycle to the seaside town of Schoorl within fifteen minutes. The cheese city of Alkmaar is not far from here.
The 126-kilometre-long West Frisian Circular Dike that runs past Schoorldam was built in the Middle Ages and now forms the stage for various events, such as the Tour of North Holland and the Karavaan street theatre. The dike provides the best view of the lowland.
