Welcome to the village with thirty-three bends. Schellinkhout was built on a sand bed of a small river called De Drecht that once flowed there, which accounts for its many bends. This rural village - east of Hoorn and beside the Markermeer - is the perfect spot for water lovers looking for peace and quiet.
Surfing paradise
Did you know that one of the Netherlands most fantastic surfing and water sports locations can be found on the other side of the dike? That is because over five hundred metres from the coast the water is shallow and thus ideal for surfing, kite surfing, swimming or sailing. At De Midget you can take lessons, play midget golf and enjoy sumptuous dining in the evenings.
Sleeping in a haystack cabin
Are you tired from all that fresh air on the dikes or a day on the water? Then relax in Bed & Breakfast 't Langhuus, a restored 'stolp' farmhouse where you will receive a hospitable welcome. You can also choose to stay in one of the unique haystack cabins that look out across the fields of the dairy farm that belongs to Jaap and Monique Visser. Alternatively, hire a holiday home in Schellinkhout right beside the Markermeer.
