The lovely village of Schardam is entered via a white wooden bridge. Its wooden dike houses and former church with stained glass windows make it look as if time has stood still here. You will find no less than three locks in this little village and a listed milepost (in the shape of a unicorn) that points the way to the village of Hoorn located slightly further. The historical village centre is surrounded by an extensive and water-rich piece of lowland, where you can cycle and walk in peace.
With a harbour on its own doorstep, where the water sloshes against the sailing boats on the shores of the Markermeer, Schardam is also a wonderful spot for water enthusiasts. Moreover, this small harbour village is the proud owner of no less than two generously sized campsites - Voor Anker and De Eenhoorn - that are situated outside the dike, meaning that you can easily walk to the water from your tent or caravan. From the campsite you can easily visit Hoorn, Edam or Amsterdam!
