This village is not for Eigenheimers, as it is renowned for the most delicious potato in Holland: the Opperdoezer Ronde. For potato lovers, the Opperdoezer is what Grand Cru is to wine lovers. Without exception, top chefs wax lyrical about its exceptional flavour. Only potatoes that are grown within a radius of one kilometre around the church at Opperdoezer are entitled to bear the name and the total harvest is only four million kilos due to its protected status. This delicately skinned potato is revered by the villagers of Opperdoezer and lovingly harvested, by hand!
The village has more to offer than potatoes alone, however. It is nicknamed ‘Little Giethoorn’ because its farmhouses are only accessible via tiny bridges. At Imkerij De Bijenstal, where you can learn all about the amazing world of bees, you can also hire a boat and explore the water-rich surroundings.
