Neighbouring village Blokker acquired national fame in the nineteen sixties, when The Beatles performed two shows at the local vegetable auction Op Hoop van Zegen. The rock 'n' roll image of this West Frisian village (to which Oosterblokker belongs) has never really disappeared. If only through the rectangular and square landscape, that was formed by the two ditches located on each side of Blokker. And then the names of farmhouses such as De Barmhartige Samaritaan (the Compassionate Samaritan) and tower mill De Krijgsman (the Warrior). It is a tough place, well situated between Enkhuizen and Hoorn, with the wonderfully wild Markermeer nearby. If you listen very carefully you can hear the south-west wind singing in the reed beds.
