Those who live beside dikes are lucky, as they are surrounded by water and have a beautiful dike in their backyard. If you climb the West Frisian Circular Dike that meanders beside the village, you can look out over the immense IJsselmeer. The days in which the Zuiderzee regularly dominated are fortunately long gone. People are now free to enjoy this large expanse of water.
The villagers are not the only ones who know how beautiful the area is. The many tourists who return each year for their holidays also greatly enjoy this place. They sleep in one of the well-equipped campsites or bungalow parks beside the water. The waters of the Groote Vliet attract plenty of visitors on a warm summer's day; they swim, fish, canoe and explore the landscape in electric boats.
On the IJsselmeer side, relaxing at De Vooroever Recreation Site is also enjoyable. The enormous, elongated recreation and nature area that runs from Medemblik, past Onderdijk to Andijk, provides a space for swimmers, cyclists, hikers and fishing enthusiasts. All that water! Pure enjoyment, isn't it?
