The very beautiful village of Markenbinnen is located on a tributary of the Alkmaardermeer. Nestled behind the old Starnmeer polder with its wide open fields and in the midst of ditches and canals, this village is a well-kept secret. It is not large - a few traditional farmhouses, a listed church and small wooden bridges - but the location is truly impressive. Located near the island of De Woude with its low peatlands, above which the Dutch cloudy skies often look so mighty. Sailing, walking, cycling: nowhere else will you see the seasons changing as beautifully.
Tip! Follow the familiar ferry cycle route - the pontjesroute - that runs right beside Markenbinnen. Peddle in the highest (or lowest) gear through the fen meadows and cross the water by ferry at least four times. Operate two of the ferries yourself with a winch!Â
