Sandwiched in between 't Twiske nature reserve and Ilperveld is the lovely village of Landsmeer. Standing in this village that consists of a long, narrow road - with tiny bridges to each house - are a number of listed buildings, with evocative names such as Huize Waterland. The village even has a windmill: De Twiskemolen. As if time has stood still. The area surrounding Landsmeer is just as beautiful. ’t Twiske (a Natura 2000 area) is an absolute paradise for the many marsh, reed and water birds. Around the small pools and lakes you will find meadows with Scottish Highland cattle, foxes and stoats. And you may even see a buzzard or kestrel flying overhead!
Walking, cycling, sailing: this unique area can be explored in numerous ways. Not to mention the expansive fenland meadows of Ilperveld. With their countless ditches, canals, reeds and the unique 'quaking fen'. Take a walk to the birdwatching hut. Cycling round the Ilperveld is also a wonderful experience. This unspoilt area of polderland is definitely worth a visit.
