Seen from the air, Jisp is surrounded by green islands. Stand with both feet on the ground and you'll see a picturesque village: with its drawbridge, listed town hall and church with stained glass windows. And beyond the village you can walk to the Jisper and Wormerveld. A nature reserve that is almost two thousand hectares in size. You can hear twittering grassland birds everywhere. Hundreds of tiny islands surrounded by rustling reeds and small canals. This is the largest area of fenland meadowland in Europe!
If you love walking then opt for the Oosteindepad at the end of summer and beginning of autumn (this path is closed in the winter to protect guests such as widgeons). A slightly shorter route takes you through the Schaalsmeerpolder. Especially interesting for bird spotters. Cycling here is also possible and takes you past the different forts in the Defence Line of Amsterdam. But probably the nicest thing about this water-rich area is boating. Hire a canoe in the marina and paddle straight into the expansive nature reserve. Through the intersections of the network of canoe routes you come across the most beautiful spots
