Welcome to Hippo! Very close to the Waddenzee you will find the biggest village (or ‘dörrep’, as the villagers say) of Wieringen. During the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Hippolytushoef was known as Little Paris, due to its many cafés and extensive nightlife with the highlight being the fair season. The fairs are still organised and during these festive days the village is restored to its former glory.
Be sure to visit the thirteen-century Hippolytus church in the centre of the village, where events such as classical concerts are regularly organised. To discover the island feeling of old, visit Wieringer Eilandmuseum Jan Lont. Experience what life was like on the former Zuiderzee island of Wieringen. Owner Jan Lont offers families an array of packages: from cycling and walking to sailing and driving. Finish the day by relaxing with a Sauna & Wellness package at Het Kuurhuys sauna.
