A tiny village with a big name: Graft. Full of old listed buildings dating from a time when the village prospered greatly. This is easily visible from the old town hall, a real eyecatcher with three stepped gables and built in Dutch Rennaissance style. Immediately next to the town hall is the unique tombstone floor of an old church that no longer exists. The one hundred and fifty seven tombstones are certainly worth looking at, as the oldest church dates from 1575! There is also a story post with a button you can press to listen to the loveliest stories. Take your time and take in the tales of the Graft villagers whose final resting place this is.
For confectionery lovers and vegetable freaks
After your visit, be sure to walk to the other side where you will find the smallest Old Dutch sweet shop in the Netherlands: Bram en Aagie. At only 5.5 square metres in size, it is still difficult to choose from sweets such as 'ulevellen', 'stroopsoldaatjes' and 'druivesuiker'. Overnight accommodation is available at Camping Tuinderij Welgelegen, which is attractively situated beside De Eilandspolder nature reserve. Not surprisingly, they hire canoes here so that you can paddle into the peace and quiet straight from your tent. The harvest from the nursery is sold at a low price by the greengrocer so that you can cook the most delicious fresh vegetables on your camping stove in the evenings.
Tip! Along the roadside in Graft and nearby villages you'll often find small unmanned stalls with homegrown vegetables and fruit. Leave the amount behind in the pot or tin you find at these small self-service stalls. This is still possible here.
