Enkhuizen is a town you will always want to return to. With its harbours full of life, lovely old centre, many museums and attractions combined with an excellent selection of shops, convivial catering establishments and events. Enkhuizen clearly prospered during the period of the Dutch East India Company. Cast your eye on all those listed buildings that abound in this old port. The Drommedaris, the defence tower in the port, and the centre full of historical buildings are reminders of this affluent time during the golden age. But even in our time the favourably located port still has enormous appeal.

For water sports enthusiasts
In the old harbours of the old Zuiderzee town not only the ships from the Brown Fleet bob up and down, but also many other ships and boats tie up there. There is good reason for this, because water sports enthusiasts will be in their element here. The modern yacht marinas offer every convenience. Moreover, it is easy to stroll into the old town centre and pull up a chair in a tastefully decorated restaurant to enjoy a delicious meal or fish dish. As you wander through the centuries-old streets you can spot many historical buildings, shops or visit one of the many museums.
So much to see
For families with young children there is enough to do in Enkhuizen. Besides the original Ship-in-a-Bottle Museum and the Enkhuizer Almanak Museum you will also find the famous Zuiderzee Museum here with its outdoor museum. Walk over the cobblestones along the lake and past 130 old houses, shops, churches and workshops. The original inhabitants enjoy telling you about their lives in bygone days. For families with small children Sprookjeswonderland (Fairytale wonderland) is ideal. With a gnome village, playing garden, the palace of Violinde, and a children's farm, this amusement park really is a fairytale for younger visitors.
Enkhuizerzand
To enjoy a refreshing dive into the IJsselmeer go to Enkhuizerzand. Near the campsite of the same name and Sprookjeswonderland you will find an attractive sandy beach with excellent water quality. At Enkhuizen Beach Pavilion the outdoor fireplace also burns on a winter's day and you can enjoy a bite to eat and a fabulous view across the IJsselmeer. The West Frisian Water Weeks, the Clipper Race and the Jazz Festival are a selection from the many events that are organised every year in and around the harbour. All of this makes Enkhuizen a town that you will want to return to, time and time again.
