The charming little harbour village of Edam is a 30-minute drive from Amsterdam. It is famous for its cheeses that are sent to all corners of the world. During the summer months, many types and flavours of cheese can be sampled here at the traditional cheese markets. De Koophandel, where the famous round cheeses ripen, is also exclusively open to visitors every Saturday from July.
Conservation village
As a conservation village, Edam has many historic buildings, such as the Edam Museum ‘Het Steenen Coopmanshuys’ where you will soon find yourself in the Golden Age. The best way to discover the village is from the water: a cruise gives you the nicest view of the old façades and their numerous ornaments.
Edam-Volendam-Marken
There is also a great deal to experience beyond the historic centre. For example, go on the classic Edam-Volendam-Marken tour and discover the beauty of Waterland! A lunch in Volendam, a boat trip across the Markermeer and a visit to Marker Museum. On your return to Edam, enjoy a meal in a cozy eatery or restaurant. And for those who can't get enough of this harbour village: an overnight stay in one of the many hotels, bed & breakfasts or apartments can soon be arranged. A relaxing stay is guaranteed!
