The small village of Berkhout is situated near the large recreation area De Hulk. In the shadow of the forest, cows and sheep graze in the meadows. There is a canoe changeover point, which can be used to enter the polder water from nearby Markermeer. On Markermeer you can also surf, sail, swim and fish. Alternatively, follow one of the lovely cycle routes that run beside the water.
Berkhout is also situated near Hoorn. The historical centre and cosy terraces, antique shops and modern stores, make shopping here easy. From holiday park Westerkogge or 't Venhop campsite - located in nature and recreation reserve De Hulk - the city is a short journey. Or maybe you'd prefer to spend the day walking in nature?
Tip! Be sure to visit the cheese shop in Berkhout (Berkhout farmhouse cheese). Artisanal farmhouse cheese is still made by hand here. And the original Moped Museum is also worth a visit.
