Safely hidden behind the wide backbone of the West Frisian Circular Dike is the IJsselmeer village of Andijk. This is a typical West Frisian rural community, beside the dike. Life here revolves around the water against which the inhabitants have so passionately defended themselves for centuries and make use of at the same time.
800 boats
The inhabitants of Andijk look after their visitors well. In this exceptionally beautiful spot you will find two bungalow parks, a campsite and the Rest Inn hotel houses. If you bring your own boot you can anchor in the harbour, which has no less than 800 berths! Cyclists will be in their element in the adjacent recreation area De Vooroever with its extensive network of cycle and hiking paths. And on a dreary rainy day you can visit the Polder Museum and the Saet en Cruyt Museum voor some local history. Or try hats on in the Hat Museum Zet 'm Op (Put it on).
Pop on the dike
Each year in July, the village is almost bursting at the seams during the Dike Pop Festival. More than 250 volunteers have been organising this festival for over 30 years. The weekend is full of happy faces, as ‘de Avond van Andijk’ is held on the evening before the festival. This is a children's party, reunion for old West Frisians and a warm-up for the Dike Pop Festival all in one.
