Roode Steen
De Roode Steen or Kaasmarkt is a square in the center of Hoorn, the crossroads of five streets and alleys, namely, clockwise: Grote Noord, Kerkstraat, Grote Oost, Grote Havensteeg, West and Proostensteeg. The Westfries Museum and the Waag are located on the square. In the middle of the square is the statue of Jan Pieterszoon Coen, a VOC governor, made by Ferdinand Leenhoff. In the summer of 2007, the original cheese market that took place here was reinstated.
The Grote Oost is located east of the square. The Roode Steen, Grote Oost and West are all located on the Westfriese Omringdijk and therefore form part of the oldest streets in Hoorn.
