Eet - en Bierencafé De Beiaard
Of all countries in the world, the Netherlands has the largest number of carillons with 182 units. In other words carillons. Then America follows with 164, and as number three Belgium with 89. Dùs. We know that again. But what does that have to do with the dining and beer cafe De Beiaard? Well, uh ... nothing. And yet again everything. The genesis of BNCs (well-known Dutch Cafés) is often rooted in highly bizarre and entertaining primal stories. We have to go back to 1985 for the concept 'De Beiaard'.
The inventor and founder of the successful Beiaard Group Nederland did not have a name for his creation at that time. He did, however, have one very strange wooden wall clock in one of his cafes at the Hoornse Kerkplein, right across from the Grote Kerk. One of which, every hour, a door opens in the front and a weatherman and his wife are chasing each other over a revolving platform. With that difference, that this clock always gave the space a roaring and whinnying horse that gallopped straight out of the timepiece. Every quarter! Very irritating. Especially if you had a sip. Then it became a herd.
