De Boerenlandroute
The Helderse Vallei is the starting point of the 4 well-marked canoe routes that Den Helder has, with various jetties along the way. In addition, Den Helder has various waterways that are easily accessible for canoes. The farmland route (orange route, 12 km) goes right through the bulb fields.
This route passes the cozy family campsite 't Noorder Sandt, the Helderse Vallei, the Klimvallei and the Pannenkoekenvallei.
The Boerenlandroute runs right through the polder landscape of the Noordkop, nowadays the largest continuous flower bulb growing area in the world! In the right period you can enjoy the colors and scents of the many bulb fields. You can watch the farmers at work and enjoy the birds that live in and around the fields.
Fun fact! The Boerenlandroute connects the waterways of Julianadorp with Den Helder. In addition to this 'urban water', there are two water flows that always remain separate from each other: the natural dune water and the water used in the agricultural sector. The water from the fields is drained under the canoe route via underground waterways ('conductors'). The clean dune water is thus preserved in the various nature reserves!
